Build one price trail
One number appeared online or in a message; another appeared in the contract. The difference may involve vehicle price, installed items, optional products, taxes, fees or financing. A monthly payment alone does not explain the purchase total.
The review compares supplied figures by source and date, flagging changed price lines, new charges, unexplained differences and missing pages. It does not promise an earlier quote is enforceable or that the difference must be refunded.
If optional products explain part of the price difference, use the checklist for dealer add-ons in California to organize those charges.
Total price has a defined meaning
The CARS Act addresses total-price disclosures in specified advertisements and first written communications, and material misrepresentations about availability at a communicated price. Total price includes dealer adjustments and items already installed, but excludes specified taxes, fees and charges; it is not automatically an all-in out-the-door amount.
We separate vehicle price, add-ons and other charges. The dated advertisement, vehicle identity, written negotiation and final line items provide the context.

Your price review file
- Dated advertisement showing the vehicle and price.
- First dealer email, text or written quote about the vehicle.
- Later quotes, buyer’s order and contract price pages.
- Itemized fees, add-ons and relevant downpayment or trade-in figures.
Identify the two amounts you want compared. The written output gives the supplied price trail, differences to clarify, missing evidence and focused dealer questions. It does not calculate guaranteed recovery or negotiate a settlement.
After payment, associate your Ko-fi account or receipt with the order and send readable, redacted copies through Ko-fi private messages. If attachments fail, use a restricted view-only link. Remove identity and account numbers, full signatures and home addresses; keep dates, amounts and terms readable.
