Qualifying transactions may have a 3-day cancellation right under the California CARS Act. We review your documents and facts against current official rules.
Start with the paperwork
The return terms are unclear—or the dealer said there is no cooling-off period. Start with the dated purchase or lease agreement, cancellation disclosure and mileage since signing.
Your written review organizes those facts, identifies dates and conditions shown in the paperwork, and flags missing pages and questions to clarify. It does not decide legal eligibility, cancel the purchase for you or guarantee an accepted return.
If your return concern also involves optional products or fees, see the paperwork checklist for dealer add-ons in California.
Why the date and disclosure matter
The CARS Act became operative October 1, 2026. Covered dealer retail used-vehicle sales or leases of $50,000 or less can have a three-day cancellation right. The period generally starts the next calendar day; dealership closures, mileage, condition, return requirements, fees and exceptions matter.
DMV summaries are not fully consistent: its Bill of Rights page mixes new three-day wording with older option-agreement information. The current statute prohibits charging for the cancellation right itself, while permitted restocking fees may apply. We flag the difference rather than assume every buyer has the same right.

Your return review file
- Signed purchase or lease agreement, including date and time.
- Cancellation disclosure and any return-policy or option-agreement page.
- Vehicle price, dealer, delivery mileage and current mileage.
- Written return messages and relevant dealer opening hours.
After payment, associate your Ko-fi account or receipt with the order and send readable, redacted copies through Ko-fi private messages. If attachments fail, use a restricted view-only link. Remove identity and account numbers, full signatures and home addresses; keep dates, amounts and terms readable.
Questions about this review
- Do I need to buy a cancellation option?
- The new statute does not allow a charge for the cancellation right itself; permitted restocking fees are separate. Older DMV option-agreement wording remains visible.
- Will this review cancel my purchase?
- No. It provides document information and flags. It does not submit a cancellation, represent you or extend a deadline.
- When will I receive the review?
- Within 24h after complete, readable, redacted documents arrive. Do not delay urgent dealer contact or licensed legal help while waiting.
